Description

After getting married in September 2010 we decided to do the opposite of settling down; so we packed up our life, stuffed it in our parent's attic and hit the road for what is essentially an extended honeymoon! We started our trip on 29th December 2010 spending 4 months travelling overland through Europe, Russia and Mongolia to China. After many a train and bus journey we caved-in and flew from Western China to Malaysia, and worked our way north to Thailand and Cambodia. The time came for us to replenish our bank accounts, so we headed to Western Australia for work in July 2011 and lived in Fremantle until February 2012. After a couple of months back home seeing our families and friends, we headed back down-under. This time we headed for New Zealand and we are currently living in Wellington. Our blog started as part of an elaborate wedding present from two of our very good friends. The idea was that on our trip we should blog from every country we visit, detailing the sights, sounds and smells and most importantly, the beer. We have certainly had fun writing it - but moreso, living it!

Lake Ferry and leaving Wellington - May and June 2013

Well I'm writing this a good five months later, so I guess this will have to be a short summary as I test my memory!

We had a short trip away to Lake Ferry for a change of scene, where we hiked around the Pinnacles....

checked out Cape Palliser lighthouse...

got delayed by cows in the road...

stumbled across a rather odd vehicle graveyard...

climb in a hill in the most ridiculous winds known to mankind...

and strolled along the black sands.

We tried out some more yoga classes in Wellington, went to a few gigs including the incredible Richter City Rebels, continued to hike around the city and enjoy the beautiful skies and sunsets.

We attended a beer tasting session at Regional Wines and Beers, which was a treat as usual!

Our friends Helen and Ross left Wellington so we gave them a send off with style, with an afternoon tea for the girls and a pub crawl for the boys. And a dive off the pier for Ross! We were gutted to see them go.

We were treated to a fabulous Midwinter feast courtesy of Lou and Robbie, which for some reason we have no photographs of!

And then we had to prepare for end. Which was really sad. And stressful. We aren't very good at goodbyes, so didn't have a big bash, but tried to see everyone before we left to say 'so long'. Our last day was wonderful, and very relaxed. We spent some time with our friends Kagan and Sarah, drinking some beers and helping Kagan to brew. Then we toddled off to the Garage Project brewery and bought a souvenir poster, which we then massively struggled to fit in our rucksacks! We packed up and said goodbye to our home.

It was quite sad and we had really mixed feelings about leaving Wellington. Our time in New Zealand has been amazing and we feel very lucky to have had such a wonderful 15 months here.

But for now, Hong Kong and further adventures beckon!!
